We all experience bloating, weight gain, feelings of sluggishness, swollen feet and in worse cases, edema at some point in time. We struggle to identify the cause, while most often ignoring a very simple one - water retention.

Water retention or fluid retention, refers to the accumulation of fluids inside the tissues and/or the circulatory system. Hormones regulate body fluids and an imbalance in the same, due to a variety of reasons can cause water to accumulate.

Causes of water retention could be anything from high sodium diets, physical inactivity, standing too long, diseased conditions like congestive heart failure, damaged kidneys, low protein intake or certain allergies etc.
